’95′ Prefixed dialing is very common for making out calls to another city in the same circle (landlines only). This was actually started by BSNL to help customers make STD calls in the circle without having to avail STD facility and deposits. AirTel and other Landline networks incorporated them as a VAS.

AirTel has now stated that it will withdraw the ’95′ dialing service as per the instruction by DoT (Department of Telecom), tonight. If you use AirTel Fixed Landline, you should now shift to normal STD code dialing and make sure you have STD facility enabled.

For example, when you call someone in Chennai, you will have to prefix Chennai’s STD code (044) (which was 95-44 before) and you should also have STD facility enabled..
